I’m Marissa Duplantis, and Simply At Home is a record of what actually works in my house in Baton Rouge.
I am not a professional organizer, and nothing here started as a plan. It started because I kept buying bins for a closet I had never emptied, and kept starting systems on a Saturday that were dead by the following Thursday. At some point I got tired of that loop and started writing down only the parts that survived a month of ordinary life: school mornings, humidity, a dryer that runs hot, people who put things back in the wrong place.
What you’ll find here
Short, tested pieces about kitchens and pantries, storage, cleaning routines, laundry and linens, small repairs, entryways and floors, bedrooms and bathrooms, and the seasonal swaps that are worth the trouble. Each one starts with the ten minutes you can finish today, then tells you what to keep once the novelty wears off.
How I test things
I use a thing in my own house before I write about it, usually for several weeks. If it only works when the house is already clean, it does not work. If it needs a label maker, a matching bin set and a free weekend before it does anything at all, I say so, because that is a project and projects stall.
What this site is not
It is not a showroom. The photos illustrate the idea, not my actual laundry room, and I am not going to pretend a shelf stays styled. There is no staff, no ghostwriter, and no product I have quietly been paid to like. When something is overrated or not worth the money, that is in the piece.
