How it works in practice
Articles that contain affiliate links carry a short disclosure at the top, before the first paragraph, in line with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission guidelines on endorsements. Nothing is hidden further down the page.
What it does not buy
A commission does not buy a recommendation. I write about things I have used in my own house, and I keep the flaws in. If the cheaper version is fine, the piece says the cheaper version is fine. If the honest answer is that you already own something that will do the job, that is the answer, even though it earns nothing.
